how to know what kind of plane you will be on united

As an AvGeek, I guess I take a fair amount of knowledge when it comes to knowing commercial passenger aircraft. This is especially true for Airbus and Boeing aircraft, as they are the most 'ascendant' ones flight out there. With fourth dimension, every bit I grew upwards, I have come up to learn more than nearly these planes and fifty-fifty started to 'love' some of the models. Personally, I am not really a fan of pocket-sized or narrow-body jets (which take a single aisle in the middle). Not that I have some condom issue with them! But to me it just somehow feels uncomfortable and 'squeezed upwards' flying in a small shipping.

So yep for me, the bigger/wider the shipping, the happier I am! More than spacious, comfortable, and sense of security. But of course in bulk of the short-haul routes, you would expect to wing in a narrow-body jet and there is not really any other choices. In those cases, I just take it… what to practise, it'south a short flight after all 😉 . Though while nosotros are on this topic, I might just also mention which shipping I like and my favorites.

From Airbus, I like the A330, and recently started liking, or even adoring the new role player out there – A350! (Though I haven't flown on it nevertheless). But I'll admit, I am more of a Boeing fan and therefore I practise looove the B777 and B787 Dreamliner! But as I even so didn't fly with the Dreamliner yet (every bit of July 2016), Boeing 777 (especially the B777-300ER) remains (and hopefully will) my accented favorite! At this point, I apologize to all those who are crazy near big, fat, flying whales similar the A380 and B747. Lamentable, merely their blueprint/exterior look is just not for me, although I know that the 'inner beauty' is more important 😉

Only WE ARE GETTING OFF-TOPIC! (Though an introduction was necessary…. on second thought, perhaps I should write another postal service on this topic?)

Then let'south simply get back on rail now shall nosotros? I'm sure many of the states noticed a certain information when booking aeroplane tickets – a hint on which shipping your flight is being operated for the destination which yous booked. Just if you are interested, you can notice out about which airlines operates which aircraft on a certain road even earlier you volume your ticket. I am going to bear witness you here how to do this – and there are two different means:

1. SeatGuru

SeatGuru is a well-known, awesome, and reliable website which shows seat maps of different aircraft of many different airlines. In improver, the seat reviews and recommendations help many passengers to choose the best available seat for their flights during booking or checking-inns. Due to the seat information which are interconnected with dissimilar airlines according to their routes and the aircraft served on these routes, this site is quite a useful ane if you lot want to discover out which aircraft is flying on your side by side journey.

Curious to know how to check that? Here nosotros become!

Step 1 : Go along SeatGuru

Seatguru1

Footstep 2 : Click on 'I don't know my flight number'. As most flying numbers are unknown earlier booking a ticket, this is the suitable pick. So you should run into something like to the following screenshot, where y'all enter the airlines, departing and destination cities, and a date of your flight or any other random dates.

Seatguru2

Step three : Enter your search…or in this instance, click "Find Seat Map" and you should get your data every bit shown below. This has your routes, flight numbers, divergence and arrival times (which are in local times), the aircraft operated on each flight, the civilities the aircraft provides, and of grade, their corresponding seat maps!

Seatguru3

You might have noticed that in this instance, there are three dissimilar flights. That means between Frankfurt and Dubai, in that location are three daily flights operated by Emirates on this route. Sometimes though, you volition see something like the following – sure then-called 'codeshare' flights.

seatguru4

As you tin see, on the second flight information technology says "this flight is a codeshare operated by Jet Airways". Which means, this is indeed 'officially' an Etihad Airways flight from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok, BUT the aircraft used on this flight is from Jet Airways! And so, you won't be expecting the same seats and civilities as you would on an Etihad aircraft.

I should mention something of import here! You should keep in listen that although the results on SeatGuru are official and updated from airlines' databases, in reality, things can exist a trivial different! What I mean by that, is that you might not get to experience flying with the same aircraft as mentioned on your itinerary or on the official search results. Though not very often, change of aircraft does happen! And at that place are several reasons for it – technical bug, low/high demand (passenger load),  aircraft availability, scheduling issues etc etc…  Therefore, it is necessary for you lot to stay updated on which aircraft were actually used recently on the same flight which you lot volition be taking very soon.

And this is where the second method comes into action!

ii. FlightRadar24

I suppose many of us know that passenger flights all over the world are possible to track existent-fourth dimension at this historic period. In that location are now several websites which offering this wonderful innovation just Flight Radar 24 is the all-time and nearly reliable (and famous) one out there for tracking flights.

flightradar1

The site offers more than just tracking airborne flights and their details!  Information technology gives information on flights which already landed, data on different airlines and their aircraft, information on drome arrivals, departures, and delays, and then much more fun stuff ! If you click on one of those airborne planes on your screen, it would show something like this.

flightradar2

On this example, nosotros tin can come across an Emirates flight with Flying # EK 94 is airborne on its way to Dubai from Bologna, Italy. We tin also see its scheduled and bodily deviation and arrival times, altitude between the 2 cities and the altitude covered so far by the airplane. Cool eh? but hang on, it gets meliorate! We can also check out…..

flightradar3

….. certain details virtually the aircraft and its flying! When y'all are tracking a certain flight, this box will appear on the left-hand side, showing you every of import details of the flight – the aircraft type, its registration, speed, and altitude. There are few other interesting details you lot tin can't see unless y'all are a paid, premium member of Flight Radar 24…. but y'all really won't need that unless you are very much into all technical details!

So yous see, as this site shows nearly everything about every flying, information technology's a proficient source to observe out about the aircraft of your upcoming (or even recent) flight. Just one downside to this is that you actually demand to know the flying number. But in case you don't know the flying number off your head, y'all can just look it upwardly on your ticket or on SeatGuru even. And when you know that little info, here's what to practise next!

Pace 1 : Go on Flying Radar 24.

Step 2 : On top right in the search box, blazon in the flying number. For example, lets say we want to check recent flights from Munich to Dubai. One of the flights on this road has the flight # EK 54. Then blazon in EK54 (without space) and y'all should see driblet-down search results like this.

flightradar4

flightradar5

Click on the specific flight number. Oh btw, if a flight is airborne, it volition evidence up on the results start on the acme. Other flights would show up on the bottom. And so if EK 54 was airborne, information technology would accept shown on one of the first results. Anyway, moving on to pace three : At present yous should see a data like this!

flightradar6

You lot tin can come across some recent flights operated on this route. According to schedule, flying EK 54 is operated with a Boeing 777-300ER and in reality, it is indeed being operated with the assigned aircraft (B77w = Boeing 777-300ER's  'abridgement'). On the other hand, you will onetime notice 'changes' similar in the following example.

flightradar7

According to schedule, Qatar Airways generally operates flight QR 636 from Doha to Dhaka with an Airbus A330-300 (A333). But hither you can clearly meet that 'A332′ and B77L' have also been deployed lately – which are Airbus A330-200 and Boeing 777-200LR and these shipping are non assigned to operate the regular schedule on this road. But 'swapping' of aircraft had to exist made, possibly because of one or more than of the reasons I've already mentioned upward there. This is one of many hundred situations out there where you can't be expecting to wing the same aircraft equally already scheduled!

I promise you aren't bored already at this betoken … I know information technology'south a pretty long post! But there are two more 'interesting' stuff to evidence you before I get the hell outta here… and so stay with me a picayune more than pleaasee 🙂

Moving on and then….. It can be likewise interesting for aviation enthusiasts or curious passengers to notice out to which destinations a certain aircraft flew to recently! Do yous see next to the aircraft model those numbers and letters combination? They await like these – A6-ENM or A7-AEN or PH-BHA or 9V-SWA etc… These are known as aircraft registration. But like cars, each aircraft accept a unique registration number which identifies a specific aircraft. You can easily click on the registration number on the data box, and it will evidence you the aircraft'due south recent flights. Or you can also type in the aircraft's registration on the search box, but like for flight numbers. For example, let's cheque out A6-ENM and come across where it has been recently.

flightradar8

We can see here that one of Emirates' 118 Boeing 777-300ERs with the registration A6-ENM recently flew to Petrograd, Glasgow, Jakarta, Beirut, Delhi, and Singapore.

Last but not to the lowest degree, in one of my posts a while ago I mentioned that there is a mode I tin can know which aircraft is quondam and which is new. This is particularly true for Emirates. Being my favorite airline, I more or less tin can tell you if i of their aircraft is one-time or new just by knowing the registration number and the aircraft its registered with. And this is the last affair I am going to 'teach' you besides on this post. Non just Emirates, this little 'play a trick on' works for any other airlines!

Are you ready? here goes then! The important thing here is to know the shipping registration first of all. Let's use an case this time from…. Cathay Pacific Airways shall we? If my memory serves me right, one of their Boeing 777-300ER'south registration is B-KPM. Searching for the historic period of an aircraft is really piece of cake! Just type in the registration number on google, and you volition exist provided with search results from dissimilar pages. But I recommend only results from Planefinder or Planespotters !  For Communist china Pacific'southward B-KPM, I got the following results.

Result from Planefinder.net
Result from Planefinder.net
Result from Planespotters.net
Result from Planespotters.net

Not but we can see this shipping's age, which is btw a little more than 6 years merely, only too we can see other details like date of first flying, registration, and delivery. Pretty fascinating I must say, for an AvGeek at to the lowest degree! And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I got to know about how old or young Emirates' armada is!

Earlier I cease off, I do repent if this long donkey post fabricated you bored! But I was only trying to aid so I also hope that yous learned one of the useful "flight hacks" out there from this mail service! Most importantly, I promise that this will help brand decisions for your future flights in a amend way 🙂

If you stayed with me until the end, I really thank you so much! Feel free to allow me know in the comments what you think about this and likewise feel free to share any like flying hacks with usa if you lot know some. Cheers!
